Notes from class of 8/13/08: Chapter 8 pg 278:
Tatha papike to paap vasna:
Here Panditji describes how shriguru tries to do upkaar for every jeev. Since all jeevs are not at the same level, they all cannot be prescribed the same type of upkaar. Some might be at a level where they can be taught about nischay whereas some might be at a level where only vyavahar might be understood.
Vyavahar updesh mostly consists of bahya kriya (jo saadhan hai, sadhya nahi). By engaging in these bahya kriyas, at least for that time, we are inclined to stop doing paap kriya and get involved in punya kriya. Consequently, our kashay also changes from tivra to mand.
Here it is further clarified that our parinam needs to be improved- kriya will improve consequently as a result of improvement in the parinam.
Additional notes:
Nischay se sharir ki kriya important nahi par uska updesh phir bhi dete hai kyonki usse nimit naimittik / sadhan sadhya smabandh hai.
Aloo ka example: Today it might be possible to grow potatoes above ground level and therefore can be called non jamikand. So can we eat such potatoes? The answer is no because here we have to think about our parinam. The idea of all niyams, tyag etc. is to reduce our raag and if after leaving something we still get tempted, then our parinam has not changed. Parinam change ho jaaye aisi kriya kyon kare?
Another point of revision was samyak darshan as per all the 4 anuyogs.
Parinam: Vyaktta sse khayal mein aata hai
Abhipray: This is one’s core belief.
With parinam, our abhipray should also change.
Homework: Read Neminath bhagwan's charitra

Thanks for summarizing.
A question for all - Should a person take some vow / niyam though :
- his/her parinaam are not very clean to do it OR
- sometimes (s)he does it very well, at other times (s)he just does the kriya for the sake of it. OR
- doesn't know what the kriya is for or what it means, but still wants to do it.
